UXBRIDGE: Another weekend, another split for the Uxbridge Bruins. After dropping a decision to the North Kawartha Knights at the Bear Den on Friday, November 22nd, the Bruins made the Pirates walk the plank in Picton on Saturday night, winning 3 to 1. Coming off a home-ice defeat to the Knights in a rematch of last season’s Orr Division Cougar Cup finals, the Bruins were looking to get back on track against the Tod Division’s Picton Pirates on Saturday evening. After spotting the home side an early 1 to 0 advantage almost seven minutes into the action, the Bruins scored just 15 seconds later to tie the game 1 to 1. Josh Cammalleri scored for Uxbridge, extending his recent scoring streak, with assists credited to Toby Cooper and the debuting Cameron Gillis. After the teams battled through a scoreless second period, the Bruins took the lead just over nine minutes into the third period on Cammalleri’s second goal of the night, also assisted by Cooper and Gillis. The Pirates tried to battle their way back into the game as the third period wore on, but were no match for the Bruins defence, led by the goal tending of Cam Smith. The rookie net minder turned aside 32 shots by the Pirates over the course of the game. With just eight seconds remaining, Cooper provided some much-needed insurance with an empty net goal, as the Bruins set sail back home with two points and a 3 to 1 victory. On Friday night, the Bruins fell 8 to 3 to the Knights with goals from Cammalleri, Daniel Giorgio and Adam Turner.

Bear Necessities: – The Bruins added the 19-year-old Gillis, a native of Colorado Springs, Colorado from the Lindsay Muskies last week. – This weekend, the Bruins will be looking to claw past the Clarington Eagles on Friday, November 29th at the Bear Den at 7:45 p.m. On Saturday night, Uxbridge travels to Little Britain for a 7:30 p.m. match-up against the Merchants.
