UXBRIDGE: The Uxbridge Bruins celebrated a homecoming this week, as they announced the first new player to join the team for the 2023-24 Provincial Junior Hockey League Season.

The team announced last week they had worked out a trade with the Stayner Siskins to acquire well-travelled right winger Ty Roberts. Ty returns to his hometown for his final junior hockey campaign after also spending time at the Junior A-level with Aurora, Pickering, Whitby and Stouffville.

Last season, Roberts played a pivotal role in helping the Siskins to a Carruthers Division and Northern Conference championships, as they advanced all the way to the Schmalz Cup semi-finals. Roberts placed third in scoring for the high-powered Siskins, totaling 60 points (33 goals and 27 assists) in 34 games played. In the playoffs, he took his game to another level, scoring 33 points (16 goals and 17 assists) in 21 games.

"We feel really good about the group we have coming back next year, and it got significantly better today being able to bring in a player like Ty Roberts," Bruins Assistant GM Trevor Cox told The Standard. "I've always said that playing for your hometown club is an experience every Uxbridge player should have, and he's going to be a big part of our team this season."

The Orr Division is slated to have their scheduling meeting this week in Port Perry. Please check upcoming issues of The Standard for all of those details in the lead-up to another exciting season of local junior hockey.
