BROCK: A week of sweet treats turned into a major show of community support for animals in need, as the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign raised more than $11,000 for the Township of Brock Dench Animal Shelter.
From April 27th to May 3rd, customers at Tim Hortons locations, in Beaverton, purchased Smile Cookies in support of Brock’s Sick and Injured Animal Fund, helping raise an impressive $11,275.30.
The national campaign sees 100 percent of proceeds, from each Smile Cookie sold, directed to local charities, community groups, and youth initiatives. In Brock, the funds will directly support emergency medical treatment for sick and injured animals arriving at the shelter, while also helping cover spay and neuter procedures, vaccinations, and enrichment programs for shelter animals.
“This incredible total speaks to the caring spirit of our community,” Mayor Mike Jubb told The Standard. “When residents come together, to support a cause like this, it makes a real difference. These funds will help ensure animals in need receive the care and treatment they deserve, and we’re grateful to everyone who purchased a cookie, volunteered their time or helped spread the word.”
The campaign also relied heavily on volunteers who spent the week baking and decorating cookies.
Kim McConkey, of the Dench Animal Shelter, said, the response from the community exceeded expectations.
“We are beyond thrilled and truly grateful for the overwhelming support shown through this year’s Smile Cookie Campaign,” said Ms. McConkey. “Raising more than $11,000 is an amazing accomplishment and speaks volumes about the generosity and compassion of our community. Every cookie purchased will help us continue providing critical medical care and support for vulnerable animals [which] come through our doors.”
Shelter staff noted, the funding will help ease the financial burden associated with caring for animals requiring urgent veterinary attention, while also improving the overall health and well-being of animals waiting for adoption.
Organizers also extended thanks to the many volunteers who dedicated their time throughout the week, along with community members who supported the fundraiser by purchasing Smile Cookies.
The Smile Cookie campaign has become a popular annual tradition across Canada, supporting local causes while bringing communities together for a shared purpose.
