BROCK: With the Sunderland Arena temporarily closed for renovations, Brock Township is making sure residents still have plenty of opportunities to enjoy ice time, this holiday season.
A full slate of free public skating sessions is being offered, at the Rick MacLeish Memorial Arena, in Cannington, and the Foster Hewitt Memorial Arena, in Beaverton, with several local organizations and businesses stepping forward to sponsor the events.
“The holidays are about bringing people together, and skating is something everyone can enjoy,” Mr. Graham said. “We’re proud to help provide a free opportunity for families and friends to get out, be active, and spend time together during the season.”
The new year will also be welcomed on the ice. On Friday, January 2nd, Remax Country Lakes Realty is sponsoring a complimentary public skating session, at the Beaverton Arena, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. That same afternoon, in Cannington, DC Plumbing is sponsoring a free public skate, at the Rick MacLeish Memorial Arena, also running from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Mayor Mike Jubb said, the holiday skating schedule highlights the township’s commitment to recreation and the strong support of the local community.
“Even with the Sunderland Arena closed, it was important to ensure residents still had access to recreational opportunities over the holidays,” Mayor Jubb noted. “We’re very thankful to the local sponsors, who have helped make these free skating sessions possible.”
In addition to the free public skates, Brock Township is offering a range of paid programs, during the holiday period, including: senior skates, parent and tot skates, youth and adult shinny, and stick and puck sessions. Full holiday skating schedules and program details are available through the township’s recreation department.
