KAWARTHA LAKES: The wonder of the holiday season will light up Ken Reid Conservation Area, near Lindsay, once again, as The Illuminated Forest returns for its fourth year. From Friday, December 12th to Sunday, December 28th, visitors can wander through trails adorned with thousands of twinkling lights, creating a winter wonderland for the whole family.

Since it first opened in 2022, The Illuminated Forest has become a cherished holiday tradition, drawing visitors from across the region. “It’s such a beautiful experience,” said, Lindsay resident, Jaclyn Foster, who visited last year. “Walking through the forest with the lights all around you really makes you feel the wonder of the season.”

This year, Kawartha Conservation and the City of Kawartha Lakes are making it even easier for residents to attend, by offering free public transit between Lindsay and Ken Reid, on select dates. Buses will depart from the rear parking lot, at Canadian Tire, 377 Kent Street West, on Friday and Saturday, December 12th and 13th, and again on Friday and Saturday, December 19th and 20th. Trips to Ken Reid begin at 4:30 p.m., with the final bus leaving at 7:30 p.m., while return trips run from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“Having the free bus service will really make it possible for more people to enjoy this incredible event,” said local visitor Jason Sharpe. “It’s wonderful to see the community come together around something so joyful.”

Visiting The Illuminated Forest is free, though a $4 parking fee applies per vehicle. Parking is available at the main lot, near the dog park, and at the administration building, as needed. Kawartha Conservation is also encouraging residents, who have enjoyed the display, to consider making an online donation, to help keep the tradition alive for future years.

Nightly displays run from 5 to 9 p.m., offering plenty of opportunities to soak in the lights, take photos, and enjoy a festive evening outdoors. Whether visiting with family, friends, or you are on a solo stroll, The Illuminated Forest promises to bring a bit of holiday wonder to everyone who walks its glowing trails.
