SCUGOG: Port Perry hockey product, Jake Bricknell, continues to make a major impact overseas after another standout professional season in England.

Playing his first season with the Bristol Pitbulls, in the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) National Division, Bricknell surpassed the 50-goal mark for the second straight year, while establishing himself as one of the league’s top offensive threats.

The former Port Perry resident finished the season with 51 goals and 55 assists, leading Bristol in scoring and placing third overall in league scoring. The NIHL National Division is considered the second-highest level of hockey in England, behind the Elite Ice Hockey League.

“It was a really enjoyable season,” said Mr. Bricknell. “Moving to a new team is always an adjustment, but the guys and staff in Bristol made me feel welcome right away. We had a strong group and I was fortunate to play with some talented teammates.”

After spending the 2025-26 season with the Swindon Wildcats, and earning club Player of the Year honours, Mr. Bricknell joined Bristol during the off season and immediately became one of the club’s offensive leaders.

The success marked another impressive chapter in Mr. Bricknell’s growing hockey career, overseas, where he has now spent four seasons playing professionally in the United Kingdom. Before Swindon, he also suited up for the Manchester Storm organization.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time in the UK,” Mr. Bricknell said. “The fans are passionate, the hockey is competitive and it’s been a great experience both on and off the ice.”

Known for his combination of toughness and offensive instincts, Bricknell has become a fan favourite with Bristol supporters, regularly producing in key moments throughout the season.

“Jake has been outstanding for us, all year,” said John Dunbar, assistant coach with the Bristol Pitbulls. “He brings offence every night, competes hard and has been a huge part of what we’ve accomplished this season. He’s also been a great teammate and leader in the room.”

Bricknell is expected to return to Bristol, next season, as the Pitbulls look to build on this year’s progress.

Despite playing thousands of kilometres from home, Mr. Bricknell said, support from family, friends and fans back in Port Perry continues to mean a great deal.

“It’s always special hearing from people back home who are following along,” he said. “Port Perry will always be home for me and I appreciate all the support.”
