SCUGOG: Bakersville, the Animated Gingerbread Village is returning once again to the Scugog Memorial Public Library, this December, marking the 30th Anniversary! Starting from very humble beginnings, in the Kent Farndale Gallery, in 1995, this community project has grown into one of the most popular events in Durham Region. Visitors come from all over Ontario and beyond to see this spectacular holiday presentation, with creations made by members of our community.
If you have ever wanted to enter a creation, now is your chance. To make the village authentic, we ask the entries be made of gingerbread. We strongly discourage battery-operated accessories, as they are too difficult to maintain for the duration of the event. If you want illumination inside your creation, we suggest you leave a small opening at the back or underneath, to allow for one of our small electrical lights. Anyone can submit an entry and there is no fee. It is a non-judged event. Kits are welcome, but original designs are what make the village truly unique.
Due to space limitations, we ask everyone to be mindful of the size of the base, by keeping it relative to the creation. There is no need to further accessorize with figurines and trees etc…we will look after that! So, gather up all of the left-over candy and start baking!
Bring your entry to the library ftom Monday, December 1st to Thursday, December 4th, inclusive, during operating hours.
Each building should have a title, a registration form is available to be filled in. There is no entry fee.
It is really helpful if the bases are white, we suggest a covering of foil paper with shredded cotton balls or artificial snow.
Then, make sure to come to the library during the holiday season, to see the spectacular animated display, starting Saturday December 6th! There is no admission fee.
The Bakersville Animated Gingerbread Village runs until Sunday, January 4th. The library's hours are: Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday/Thursday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
