Would you rather be the oldest one in the gym or the youngest one in a nursing home?

Working with seniors over the years, I’ve come to learn how priorities change as people age. It becomes about maintaining independence and quality of life which allows them to enjoy their activities. Mental and physical decline is not an inevitable part of aging. It certainly doesn’t mean you do less. Let’s remember the importance of physical and mental health as you age.

If you've ever looked into the cost of retirement homes, you know how expensive it can be. Any client I work with wants to live in their home as long as possible. Unless you have $7000 a month to pay for retirement home, you may want to consider investing in your health now.

If you think a gym is not suited for you, I’d like to remind you of the 90 year old client I work with. I’ve heard people tell me exercise is expensive, comparatively speaking would you rather spend $7000 a month to live in a retirement home or $450 on personal training?

The overall benefit of exercise goes beyond just the physical benefits. Engaging socially with like minded individuals also helps you feel included. Loneliness an isolation is a very real thing in the elderly population. Many lose purpose in life and part of that is because they don't engage in social or physical activities. The good news is you don't have to be a statistic. There are those of us who specialize programs for seniors. It's never too late to change your life and make choices to help yourself. Just remember you are worthy of being well.
