Uxbridge Swim Club competed at 2 Area Swim Meets

UXBRIDGE: Last weekend, the Uxbridge Swim Club had Swimmers racing outside of Uxbridge at two different Meets: the Pickering March Into Spring Swim Meet and Swim Ontario Central Regions.

Uxbridge joined several other clubs at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation complex in Pickering, Ontario, on March 26th and 27th for some high-spirited competition.

Assistant Head Coach Taylor Ostrander accompanied the Swimmers. Ostrander commented that “Everyone showed up to race. Lots of great swims from everyone with all the swimmers reflecting on each race and thinking about something they did well and something they can improve on for next time”.

Head Coach Sarah Steinke travelled with other swimmers to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough for Central Regions. Swimmers had to qualify for this meet, and they did not disappoint.

Two new club records were set: Maryn Wray 1500 free 13 yr 20:29 and Chloe Walker 1500 free 12 yr 19:04. Additionally, Club Members achieved 10+ new regional qualifying times.

However, both coaches agreed that the highlight of these two-weekend meets was the feedback received from the parents, swimmers, and communities on how incredible the USC swimmers are – Steinke added: “We received multiple emails of recognition for swimmers’ camaraderie and team spirit at USC. USC athletes support each other, cheer each other on even if it means staying behind for up to two hours to support their teammates”.

As the swimming regulatory bodies, Swimming Canada and Swim Ontario, have opened things up according to Public Health Authorities guidance, we will be seeing our local swimmers compete in events more regularly – something they have not been able to do for just about two years.

Thanks to the dedication of the Coaching Staff, Board of Directors and Parent Volunteers, the Uxbridge Swim Club had continued during the period of “Covid downtime” both in the pool under restrictive measures when allowed and virtually when Ux Pool was closed. Consequently, Swimmers are ready for competition and excited to be back in the water.

If your child is interested in joining the Club, the next ten-week session of pre-Competitive is scheduled to start on April 19th. To Register, email Coach Sarah Steinke at coachsteinke@gmail.com.
