Uxbridge’s Brock Webster named Major League Rugby Player of the Year

UXBRIDGE: Brock Webster’s remarkable rise in professional rugby has reached another milestone. The Uxbridge product has been named Major League Rugby(MLR)’s Player of the Year, after helping the Chicago Hounds make history, with a perfect championship season.

The honour caps a remarkable two-year run for Webster, who has gone from uncertainty about his rugby future to becoming a back-to-back MLR champion and one of the league’s top players.

Webster's rugby career began in Uxbridge, where he was a standout player at Uxbridge Secondary School, before progressing through the Canadian rugby system and earning international recognition.

He was a standout member of Canada's Under-20 team before being named Rugby Canada's Young Player of the Year, in 2018.

Webster has since represented Canada numerous times, in international competition. He led the Canadian team in scoring, at the 2022 Rugby Sevens World Cup, before making his international 15s debut the following year, in a Canadian victory over the United States. Playing on the right wing, Webster scored a try in his debut.

His international experience has been matched by a growing list of accomplishments at the professional level.

The Chicago Hounds announced the signing of Webster, on December 2nd, 2025, adding him to a national team contingent which included Mason Flesch and team captain Lucas Rumball.

Webster quickly established himself as a key part of the Hounds' lineup. He started all 11 games, in which he appeared, as Chicago went undefeated through the regular season and playoffs, finishing the year with a 12-0 record and capturing the MLR Shield in front of a home crowd.

His regular-season statistics reflected his impact. Webster scored six tries and recorded 92 carries, for 549 metres, while beating 36 defenders and making 18 tackles. He also accumulated 728 kick metres.

His performances earned him MLR Player of the Week honours, in Rounds 5 and 7, along with Team of the Week selections, in Rounds 5, 7 and 8. The Hounds also recognized Webster as their Back of the Year.

The season represents a dramatic turnaround for the Uxbridge rugby player.

Just one year earlier, Webster was uncertain whether he would have a team to play for. Instead, he went on to help the New England Free Jacks win the 2025 MLR Championship, earning Championship Most Valuable Player (MVP) honours along the way.

He followed that performance with another championship, in 2026, this time as part of an undefeated Chicago Hounds squad.

The result is a rare back-to-back championship run and a season which has transformed Webster's place in the league, from a player facing uncertainty about his future to a two-time champion and the MLR's top individual player.

For the Uxbridge community, Webster's latest achievement adds another chapter to the story of a local athlete who has risen from the fields of Uxbridge Secondary School to the international stage and the highest levels of professional rugby.

His 2026 campaign now stands as one of the league's most memorable individual seasons, combining an undefeated championship run with the MLR Player of the Year award.
