Uxbridge Fall Fair opens Sept. 8

DARRYL KNIGHT The Standard UXBRIDGE: One of North Durham's great autumn traditions, the Uxbridge Fall Fair returns to Elgin Park this weekend, with a full slate of activities under the theme of 'We've Got a Good Thing Growing' from Friday, Sept. 8 to Sunday, Sept. 10.

A significant change this year is the policy of no backpacks allowed, although there are exceptions for clear bags or diaper bags if patrons are accompanied by an infant. According to a press release, the policy was introduced “in the interest of public safety and well-being of our valued patrons.”

Renowned as an arts community, local performers take the stage throughout the weekend at the Rotary Club Bandshell, including a youth talent show at 5 p.m. on Friday night, as well as three performances by illusionist Lucas Wilson on Saturday.

The tractor pull is the main attraction on Friday night, and it roars to life at 7 p.m. On Saturday night, the demolition derby gets underway at 7 p.m.

Town Trolley has expanded their shuttle service this year, from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, and 5 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, with pick-up and drop-off points at Body Fit, Uxbridge Secondary School, Herrema Fields and the Arena.

On Saturday, admission is $20 for adults and $15 for senior and kids 6 to 13, kids under 5 are still free. The Saturday family pass is $60 for two adults and two kids (6 to 13).
