KAWARTHA LAKES: BGC Kawarthas (formerly Boys & Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes) is inviting residents of the Kawarthas to come together to celebrate Canada with some of the biggest local names in music.
Canadian pride and identity have never been stronger than they are today. In the midst of international tension, Canadians across the country are taking action to buy and support Canadian products and to protect what makes us unique. For many, Canadian culture is one of the things that sets us apart – our songs and stories express what’s distinct about living in this country.
Tapping into our love for Canada, BGC Kawarthas is hosting a concert at the end of May to celebrate our distinctive culture, compassion, and perseverance. It will be called O Canada, and it will feature a lineup of all-star Canadian musicians.
“We’re excited to do something different – it just seems like the right time to celebrate some of the greatest Canadian hits of all time and to host some of the artists who have connections to the Kawartha Lakes,” says Amy Terrill, Executive Director. “A sell-out show will allow us to support the music programs at BGC Kawarthas, which help children and youth build confidence and skills and access all the proven benefits of music.”
The lineup includes: The Strumbellas, Tyler Kyte and Nick Rose (members of Dwayne Gretzky), Russell deCarle of Prairie Oyster, Meliissa Payne, Cassie Noble, and a few BGC youth performers, with more to be announced. The concert’s host is Erica Ehm, former Much Music VJ.
It will take place on Sunday, May 25th, at 7 p.m., at Flato Academy Theatre. Proceeds from the concert will go towards BGC Kawarthas music programs, which offer children and youth various opportunities to learn instruments, sing, compose and record songs, and more. Tickets are now available at Flato Academy Theatre.
The supporting sponsor of the event is MSI (Marquis Snow & Ice).
Additional sponsorships are available. If interested, email Heather McCullough at hmcullough@bgckawarthas.com.
BGC Kawarthas Foundation raises money to support the programs at BGC Kawarthas, formally known as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes, and to provide direct subsidies to families. The Club is one of the area’s largest and most diverse child and youth-serving organizations. Established in 1970, it provides summer camps, before and after school programs, early learning, licensed childcare, child and youth counselling, infant development, music, sports, recreation and adventure programs in the Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.
