U15 Blades are Golden Girls

The North Durham Blades U15B team had an exciting time, participating in the Guelph Winter Classic, this past weekend.

In the A pool, the Blades finished in first place, after playing three round robin games, in which they defeated St. Catharines Brock Jr. Badgers 2-0, Etobicoke Dolphins 4-1, and Bancroft Jets 5-2.

Crossing over into the B pool, for quarterfinals, the Blades faced off against the Mississauga Hurricanes and won 4-0, advancing to the semifinals.

Next up, was the familiar Brock Jr. Badgers, and the Blades were victorious again, winning 2-0, securing their spot in the finals.

Going into the championship game, the North Durham Blades were up against undefeated Waterloo Ravens. The Ravens had also finished first in their pool and won both of their quarter and semi final games, going 5-0 in the tournament. However, the Blades were ready. After a scoreless first period, the Blades got on the board with a goal and followed it up with a second, 1 minute and 6 seconds later. They held the lead, despite killing two penalties, going into the third period. With lots of chances on both sides, the Blades maintained control of the game and came out Champions of the Guelph Winter Classic!

We extend our special thanks to coaches Kevin, Jim, Bryan, and Matt, for all the time they give to our girls and for pushing them to their potential. Thank you to trainers Jenni, Denise, and Sonya for taking care of the girls. As well, we offer a huge Congratulations to the girls, for their hard work, determination, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
