KAWARTHA LAKES: Two Bethany residents have been charged with second-degree murder after an 18-year-old was shot and killed in Omemee on Tuesday, February 18th.
According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the incident occurred a little after 1 p.m. Police and emergency crews responded to assist a person who suffered a gunshot wound at a residence in Omemee.
The victim, later identified as Alexander Tobin, was then transported to a hospital where he died.
Charged and arrested for second-degree murder are 23-year-old Aaron Simmonds and 18-year-old Zachary Simmonds. Both have appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay, and have been remanded until February 27th. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
“Police are looking to identify a vehicle of interest in connection with this homicide. It is described as a grey Ford Focus with tinted windows and steel winter rims,” read an OPP press release. “It was last seen westbound on Highway 7 in the Town of Omemee shortly after the shooting.”
