NORTH DURHAM: The Townships of Scugog and Uxbridge are warning residents about an unauthorized third party, who is selling products with the Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter's logo.

The animal shelter is aware of online advertisements, giving out clothing and hats which have the Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter logo on them. Neither of these are associated with the animal shelter or Uxbridge Township. The issue was brought forward by a community member, who found a post featuring the products, who then flagged it with Township staff. The Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter does not currently sell merchandise with the logo. Anyone with concerns and inquiries are advised to call 905-985-9547 or email animal-shelter@uxsc.ca.

Donations can be made online, through the Township of Uxbridge website, under Animal Services, by selecting "Donate Now," at https://www.uxbridge.ca/living-here/animal-services. Donations are also accepted in person, in the Uxbridge Town Hall, at 51 Toronto Street South and the Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter, at 1360 Reach Street in Port Perry.

Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter has dogs and cats available for adoption. The shelter also, occasionally, has smaller animals, depending on current intake levels. Individuals interested in adoption are encouraged to visit the shelter or you can view available animals online, at https://www.uxbridge.ca/living-here/animal-services, and complete an adoption application. Staff work to match pets with suitable homes, to help ensure successful placements. The shelter is grateful for community support. Most-needed donation items currently include: disposable gloves, laundry detergent, bleach, floor cleaner, liver treats, dog training treats and other items.

For the most up-to-date information, residents can follow the official Township of Uxbridge and Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter Facebook and Instagram pages. Additional information can also be found on the Township of Uxbridge website, at www.uxbridge.ca.

The new Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter project is overseen by a steering committee, comprised of members from both the Townships of Uxbridge and Scugog. The shelter will be located at 5500 Lakeridge Road. When completed, it will serve both communities. Construction is in progress, with substantial completion expected by mid-October 2026.

Occupancy is scheduled for New Years Eve 2026.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on December 2nd, 2025, to mark the start of construction. The project was made possible through significant community support and municipal funding.

Between 2011 and 2018, NASUS (New Animal Shelter for Uxbridge and Scugog) and private donors raised over $750,000, through signature fundraising events and grassroots initiatives. Each Township pledged $540,000 toward the project. In 2022, a $1,100,674 donation, from the Estate of Marlyn Ruth Rennie, brought total available funds to more than $2,800,000.

The Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter/Scugog Animal Control Centre is open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., daily, except Sunday.
