BROCK: The waters of Lake Simcoe, once again, proved why they are regarded among Canada's premier smallmouth bass fisheries, as anglers from across Ontario converged on Beaverton for the 2026 Competitive Sport Fishing League (CSFL) Bronzeback Cup, on July 4th and 5th.

After two days of competitive fishing, Cory and Chris Johnston claimed the championship title, with an impressive combined two-day weight of 56.94 pounds, topping a talented field of anglers competing on one of the province's most sought-after bass fishing destinations.

The annual tournament attracted some of Ontario's best competitive anglers, all looking to capitalize on Lake Simcoe's reputation for producing trophy-sized smallmouth bass while earning valuable points, early in the CSFL season.

Known as the Smallmouth Bass Capital of Canada, Brock Township has become a regular destination for major competitive fishing events. The Bronzeback Cup continues to showcase the area's world-class fishery, while drawing anglers, families, and spectators to Beaverton each summer.

"This event is a great showcase of what makes Brock Township special," said Mayor Mike Jubb. "We're incredibly proud to host the Bronzeback Cup, on Lake Simcoe, each year. It not only highlights our world-class fishery, but also brings a significant boost to our local economy."

Mayor Jubb said, tournaments such as the Bronzeback Cup continue to strengthen Brock Township's reputation, as one of Canada's premier freshwater fishing destinations, while supporting local businesses through increased tourism.

"These events put Beaverton and Brock Township on the map, for anglers from across the province and beyond," he said. "It's an opportunity to showcase everything our community has to offer while welcoming visitors who return year after year."

The excitement on Lake Simcoe isn't over, just yet.

The CSFL returns to Beaverton, next weekend, for the Bassmania Wildcard tournament, on Saturday, July 22nd, where another strong field of anglers is expected to compete at the renowned fishery. The event will, once again, bring competitors and spectators to the waterfront, as Lake Simcoe continues to cement its status as one of North America's premier bass fishing destinations.
