Remember to set your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 2nd, at 2 a.m. The Uxbridge Fire Department also advises residents to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
To ensure smoke and carbon dioxide alarms function properly, batteries must be replaced annually. Doing this at the same time as clock resets is a useful way to keep track of when to replace batteries.
Smoke and carbon dioxide alarms are important because they serve as early warning signs during emergencies. Smoke alarms are required everywhere in the home. Installing alarms in bedrooms is recommended for additional safety.
Residents who own fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces, or an attached garage are required to have carbon monoxide alarms outside all sleeping areas. Starting on New Year's Day 2026, additional carbon monoxide alarms will be required on every floor without bedrooms.
It is the law to have properly functioning smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
