KAWARTHA LAKES: The Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made an arrest following a suspicious death investigation in Fenelon Falls, which turned into a homicide investigation.
“Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on October 2nd, 2023, the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the death of 79-year-old Marilyn Whiteway at a residence on Kanata Trail,” an OPP press release stated. “On October 11th, 2023 at approximately 1:30 p.m. officers located and arrested the suspect outside a residence in the Town of Lindsay.”
At the time of the 79 year-old woman’s death, OPP wrote they “believe this to be an isolated incident” and stated there was “no concern for public safety.”
48-year-old Stephen Whiteway of Fenelon Township is facing a second degree murder charge.
“The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit continues its investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with assistance from members of the OPP Central Region Crime Unit, City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and OPP Regional Support Team (RST), and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario (OCCO) and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS),” read the OPP press release.
