Sunderland Fair set for Sept. 12 and 13

SUNDERLAND: Celebrating the agricultural heritage of the community and the theme of ‘pumpkins’ the Sunderland Agricultural Society is proud to host the 170th edition of the Sunderland Fair, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12 and Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Again this year, in the absence of a midway, there will be an inflatable play zone for kids, with a rock climbing side and obstacle courses. The Sunderland Fairgrounds are located at 20 Park St.

On Tuesday evening, the fair opens to the public at 5 p.m., with opening ceremonies set for 6 p.m. alongside 4H club lawn tractor pulls, as well as the opening of the beer tent. At 6:30 p.m., the horse and pet show take place as well as the Lions Theatre Group and Legion Line Dancers performing at the arena.

Local musician Ben Hudson takes to the stage in the beer garden for a 7:30 p.m. concert.

Wednesday, Sept. 13 sees a full day of activities at the Sunderland Fairgrounds. Gates open at 9 a.m., with the parade from the school taking place at 10:30 a.m.

Throughout the day, there are numerous livestock shows as well as performances and craft demonstrations at the arena.

The always-popular demolition derby gets underway at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening to close out the festivities.

Admission for the fair is $10 on Tuesday and $15 on Wednesday, There is also a two-day pass available for $20, and elementary school-aged children can enter free of charge. Visit www.agfair.cafor more information and a complete schedule of all events.
