Sunderland Arena Expansion Progressing, Completion Targeted for the Autumn

BROCK: Work on the Sunderland Arena expansion and renovation project is continuing to move forward, despite slight delays caused by utility connections. Officials report substantial progress has already been made, with demolition nearly complete and construction now underway on both the exterior and interior of the facility.

Mayor Mike Jubb called the project “a historic project in the Township of Brock,” noting the partnerships which have made it possible. “This is thanks to: the amazing partnership between the federal and provincial governments, significant municipal investment, and the extremely generous donation by the Sunderland Lions,” he said.

He added, the project is an exciting milestone for the community. “I look forward to this project being on time and on budget. Recreation projects such as this support all age groups and bring the community together, while supporting our many small businesses.”

While utility servicing has caused minor scheduling adjustments, the renovation project is still projected to be completed by the end of September.

Once finished, the upgraded Sunderland Arena will offer improved amenities, to better serve local residents, user groups, and visiting teams. Planned enhancements include: expanded and modernized change rooms, improved accessibility features, updated spectator areas, and upgraded mechanical and electrical systems. These improvements are designed to extend the life of the facility and meet the growing needs of the Sunderland community and surrounding area.

The arena renovation is part of the Township of Brock’s broader investment in community recreation infrastructure. Officials noted, the Sunderland Arena plays a central role in local minor hockey, figure skating, community events, and recreational programming, making the upgrades a long-term investment in community life.

The township will continue to provide updates, as key milestones are reached and construction progresses, over the coming months.
