Scugog Firefighters Give Back

SCUGOG: The Union that represents Scugog’s Professional Firefighters says that its members have appreciated the offers of support made to them throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The sense of community in Scugog has been inspiring and as a result, the SPFFA also wanted to find a way to give back. Knowing that some of the most vulnerable are residents of local nursing and retirement homes, and those in the hospital, the SPFFA put together and donated care packages to local facilities. The care packages delivered to West Shore Village, Port Perry Villa, Port Perry Place and Lakeridge Health Port Perry contained items such as puzzles, word searches and colouring books to keep residents entertained. In an effort to bring families together, the SPFFA also purchased tablets and provided three, to each home and one to the hospital, so that residents and patients will have the ability to video chat with their families who are not currently able to visit. SPFFA President Clint Walker explained, “It’s our way of giving back to the community. The global pandemic has made it extremely difficult for those in care and retirement facilities, and hospitals, to communicate with loved ones. The front-line workers at all of our facilities within Scugog are witnessing firsthand the emotional stresses of these unprecedented times. With these donations our hope is to bring families together, virtually, and lift the spirits of all involved.” The Scugog Professional Fire Fighters Association is made up of four members who are proud to serve the Township of Scugog.
