SCUGOG: The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way Scugog Township can recognize people who do good things in the community. On Monday November 30th, the township announced “ in lieu of Scugog’s annual Mayor’s Levee and Honour Roll Awards”, they have launched a new initiative called ‘Celebrate Your Community Hero.’

This month, residents are encouraged to go online to My.Scugog.ca/communityhero and post a photo or story of someone they think of as a local hero.

“This New Year, all the heroes will be featured online and celebrated on social media. Each Community Hero will receive a special recognition package including a letter from Mayor Drew,” a Scugog press release explained.

Mayor Bobbie Drew explained the importance of continuing to recognize people who contribute positively to the community.

“During the pandemic we know many community heroes have emerged and stepped up to serve the community,” she said, in a statement. “A community hero can be a front line worker, a teacher, a neighbour, a business owner, a volunteer or anyone you feel went above and beyond to support their community or made a difference to you and your family.”

The mayor added, despite the pandemic, “a sense of community is never cancelled.”
