Scugog deputy mayor concerned about the future of filming in Scugog

SCUGOG: Scugog’s Deputy Mayor Janna Guido decried a recent report about the Township’s relationship with movie and television companies at a meeting on Monday, April 29th.

“Noted in the minutes is some rather disappointing news in section 7.4 regarding filming in the Township of Scugog, particularly in Port Perry. I know our small but very powerful team which heads up the film and tourism side in Scugog has worked for years to build relationships with those in the film industry. It is very disappointing to see that potentially those who make the decisions regarding where the film shoots will be, particularly the scouts have deemed Scugog may not be [a] right [fit],” Councillor Guido said.

At the meeting, Scugog councillors saw the minutes from the April 11th Tourism Advisory Committee meeting. Specifically, there was a portion of the meeting noted from the Film and television subcommittee.

“It was noted to the [Tourism Advisory Committee] Township of Scugog has been blacklisted within the filming industry. Staff have been working on mending the relationship with the filming industry and are hopeful current discussions with a film representative will lead to a television series being filmed in Scugog,” the minutes stated.

However, Councillor Guido said she “has the utmost faith” that the Township will “be able to forge those relationships forward again.
