SCUGOG: Scugog Computers has officially moved into new digs in Port Perry, and is continuing a tradition of excellent electronic service in Scugog Township.

The local company held a grand opening at their new location at 139 Perry Street on Wednesday, November 1st.

With the retirement of Anne Allen, who helped to run Allen Computers and Electronics, Scugog Computers owner Michael Filip saw an opportunity to help keep the former business’ legacy alive, while also continuing to provide the services his company has for 10 years.

“I’ve known Anne for years and when she announced she was retiring, we had a quick conversation about how I could come in and continue to support her customers. She’s got a really loyal fanbase. So, I was able to come in and continue supporting them, and add additional services as well. It’s been wonderful since the grand opening. The community’s been very welcoming, and I’ve had a lot of people come in just to say hello and welcome,” Mr. Filip said.

Mr. Filip talked about what he enjoys most about running this business.

“I’ve always been taking apart and putting together electronics since I was a kid. I went to the University of Waterloo for Computer Science, and had a career out of that. But then I started working for myself 10 years ago because it’s just so much more satisfying to work with the hands on stuff, and work directly with clients.”

Mr. Filip has also served as past President of the Scugog Chamber of Commerce.

When asked how business has been since the new storefront opened, Mr. Filip stated “quite busy, surprisingly busy.”

For computers, Scugog Computers offers hardware and software, upgrades and tuneups and they set up and sell new systems. The business also does cellphone and tablet repairs and sales.

“Everybody likes to support local, and I do live locally and I’m a big supporter of the community as well,” Mr. Filip said.
