SCUGOG: Scugog Township invites everyone to celebrate 50 years of memories, milestones, and community spirit at the Scugog Arena. For five decades, the Scugog Arena has been a cornerstone of the community, hosting: generations of athletes, families, volunteers, and fans across hockey, figure skating, ringette, broomball, lacrosse, and ball hockey. To honour this legacy, the Township is hosting two special anniversary events, on Saturday, September 19th: a Community Open House and a 50th Anniversary Dance.

Visitors can step back in time and explore the history of the beloved arena. Browse historic items, photos, and memorabilia which showcase five decades of sports, events, and community moments. Whether visitors grew up in Scugog, played there, or cheered from the stands, this is a chance to relive the memories and celebrate the legacy.

Organizers of the event are looking for photos and stories from leagues, events, volunteers, families and more. If people have some memories they would like to highlight, a story or photo can be submitted to the Scugog Arena 50th Committee. Visitors get to browse photos and memorabilia, leave stories about their memories of the Scugog Arena, and enjoy refreshments. Admission is free. The Anniversary Dance will run from 7 p.m to midnight. It is a ticketed event, and will include a DJ, bar service, and refreshments.

Sponsorship partners are being sought out, to help make this event a success, while supporting the continued enhancement of the Scugog Arena. Sponsorship provides an opportunity to demonstrate the organization’s commitment to community development, local sport, and recreation, while gaining recognition among residents, families, and visitors. As part of the anniversary celebration, the Township is introducing a new Individual Sponsorship opportunity. With a minimum donation of $50, community members can have their name added on a commemorative rink board. This a great way for visitors to recognize connection to the arena and help support this milestone celebration.

Further information can be found on the Township of Scugog website, under Parks, Recreation & Culture. This includes Anniversary Weekend Hockey Games with the Port Perry Lumberjacks.
