Port Perry Snapshots Short Play Festival returns in May

CAREY NICHOLSON Artistic Director/General Manager, Theatre on the Ridge

SCUGOG: The Port Perry Snapshots Short Play Festival is an annual playwriting competition, presented by Theatre on the Ridge, to foster the development of local playwrights. The festival also aims to celebrate the moments which can define either a single life or a whole community in a small Ontario town. In 2024, as this year’s source of inspiration, we recognize and celebrate some of Scugog’s diverse dining establishments, as we explore the theme of food under the theme of Food for Thought.

Playwrights from across Durham region and beyond have been inspired to create short plays, inspired by our snapshot prompts, featuring several local Port Perry restaurants. Meals and dining play vital roles in our lives. The preparation, consumption and enjoyment of a meal is part of our everyday routines, our significant moments and milestones. Our attitudes towards food help define and connect us. Stories are told, deals are made and lives can be changed, over the dinner table or in a corner of a cafe. So many possible snapshots to share, so much Food For Thought.

The Anglican Church of the Ascension, located at 266 North Street, in Port Perry, will be hosting the Festival. Come see what’s on the menu this year, from nine emerging playwrights, and take part in a feast of new plays. There are two performances only. Program A is on Friday, May 10th, at 7:30 p.m. and Program B is on Saturday, May 11th, at 2 p.m.

Single show tickets are $25 each. Save with a Snapshots Pass, at only $40, for both performances. The program line up and tickets are available at theatreontheridge.ca or by calling the box office, at 905-242-9343.
