Port Perry Seniors Pickleball players score at the Canadian Nationals

DURHAM: The Canadian Pickleball Nationals were held in Kingston at the  Invista Centre July 1st. It was the first time this National event has been held in Eastern Canada. Traditionally it has been held in British  Columbia. Players from across Canada as well as the USA were competing. There were several players representing Port Perry who arrived home with  some new shiny hardware! The Port Perry Seniors Pickleball Club Medal winners are Karin Mundinger  and Roy Wilson. KARIN MUNDINGER won three medals. She won the Silver Medal in the Mixed  Doubles rating level 4.5/age 60+ event; the Bronze Medal in the Women’s  Doubles rating level 4.5/age 60+ event; and the Gold Medal in the  Women’s Singles rating level 3.5/age 60+ event. ROY WILSON won a Bronze Medal in the rating level 3.5/age 70+ event. The player skill rating scale range from 2.0 – 3.0 beginner level up to a 5.0  Pro level. A skill rating competition requirement similar to  other designated sports, that is set and approved by the IFP –  (International Federation of Pickleball). The Port Perry Seniors Pickleball starts up their summer playing effective July 15th at the Uxbridge Secondary School. Thursday’s are for  “ladder” play exclusively. The dates for regular play are July 15, 16,  22, 23 ,24, 29, 30, 31, August 6, 7, 12, 13, 14. Playtimes are 9 a.m.  to 11 a.m. for novice and beginner, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for intermediate and 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. for advanced. The club returns to the Scugog Recreation Centre in September. The Port Perry Seniors Club activities at the Latcham Centre at Queen and Water are on hold for several weeks over the summer. Closures include July 15th thru 19th, July 25th and 26th, and the last two weeks of August. These include euchre, exercise, yoga, woodworking and line dancing.
