DAN CEARNS The Standard

The Port Perry Lumberjacks were able to come out of the weekend with a victory in a tight game against the Georgina Ice.

The game was held at Scugog Arena on Sunday, January 28th. A little over two minutes into the first period, the Ice grabbed the first lead of the game with a power play goal. But with three minutes remaining on the first period clock, a ping noise of the puck off the pipe and into the net signalled a goal for Andrew Naccarato-Soule, tying the game up at 1-1.

Less than a minute and a half into the second period, the Ice regained their lead with another power play goal. But, 33 seconds later, the Lumberjacks responded with a goal from Kyle Bailey. Ten minutes after that goal, the Lumberjacks took their first lead of the game when Zach Caron capitalized on a Lumberjacks power play. The Lumberjacks led the game 3-2 after 40 minutes of play.

Over two and a half minutes into the third period, the Lumberjacks extended the lead to 4-2 with a goal from Johannes Kalm. Five and a half minutes into the frame, the Ice would strike to make it a 4-3 game. Three minutes later, the Ice struck again, tying the game 4-4. But just before the halfway mark of the period, Cameron Marshall would score what would be the game winning goal. The Lumberjacks held on to win the game 5-4.
