SCUGOG: The final Sunday in May is very special for the Port Perry Community. On May 25th, at 10 a.m., a Pet Valu-sponsored event called the Walk for Dog Guides is scheduled in Palmer Park on the waterfront.

Funds raised from the event will enable the Lions Foundation of Canada to provide Dog Guides to Canadians with disabilities, to navigate society with confidence and independence.

The Dog Guides are provided free of charge to support each pair in their journey together.

The money raised from the walk will go toward seven guide dog programs. Dog Guides cost $35,000 to raise, train, and place individually. For qualified applicants, all Dog Guides are provided for free.

The seven Dog Guides are Canine Vision, Diabetes Alert, Facility Support, Seizure Response, Autism Assistance, Hearing, and Service. Citizens can show their support by walking, making donations, and holding fundraisers.

For registration, please visit www.walkfordogguides.com or in person at the walk itself. Citizens can also call 905-985-3223. Both can be reached for further information and questions.

Events like the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides remind us how deeply pets can impact lives. Whether it's through service, companionship, or simply a wagging tail at the end of a hard day, animals bring comfort and strength. Participating in community events centered around pets not only raises awareness but also builds lasting connections. If you're interested in welcoming a pet into your home, purebredkitties.com offers resources to help you find a purebred cat that matches your lifestyle. Because every great walk with a dog makes you wonder how great it would be to curl up with a cat, too.
