One woman killed, a man injured in a Scugog Island head-on crash

SCUGOG: A collision on Island Road on Scugog Island has claimed the life of a 47-year-old woman.


The collision occurred in the early morning of Saturday, May 13th, and also saw a 19-year-old man be placed in critical condition.

According to Durham Regional Police (DRPS), “at approximately 3:05 a.m., members from North Division responded to a head-on collision between two vehicles on Island Road north of Demara Road in Scugog Township.”

“A Nissan SUV was travelling southbound on Island Road when a four-door Hyundai, travelling northbound, crossed over the center line causing the vehicles to collide head-on. The female driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene, and a male passenger from the same vehicle was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries. The male driver of the Hyundai was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he remains in critical condition,” a DRPS press release added.

Island Road was closed to traffic for several hours as police investigated the scene. DRPS did not provide the name of the victim who was killed in the collision or the injured man’s name.
