NORTH DURHAM: Cyclists, looking to explore the countryside this summer, have plenty of reasons to head north, as Durham Region is highlighting a collection of scenic cycling routes, through Brock, Scugog, and Uxbridge as part of its Shift Into Scenic Durham Region campaign.

The initiative encourages residents and visitors to discover North Durham's picturesque landscapes, historic downtowns, and rural communities by bicycle, with routes suited to riders of every skill level.

New cycling wayfinding signage has been installed across the region, making it easier for riders to navigate routes while discovering local attractions, cafés, farm markets, and other businesses along the way.

Mayor Mike Jubb said, Brock Township's quiet roads and welcoming communities make the municipality an ideal destination for cyclists.

"Cycling is one of the best ways to experience everything Brock Township has to offer," Mayor Jubb said. "Whether you're riding along the shores of Lake Simcoe, exploring our rural backroads, or stopping in one of our villages for a coffee or a meal, visitors will find incredible scenery and genuine small-town hospitality. We encourage everyone to come and experience Brock on two wheels, this summer."

In Brock Township, cyclists can choose from two leisurely routes and a more challenging ride. The Cannington Countryside Loop is a fully paved nine-kilometre route, designed for families and casual riders, winding through the village and surrounding countryside.

Those looking for a gravel adventure can tackle the Seagrave Countryside Loop, a 14-kilometre route, featuring 82 percent gravel roads, through peaceful farmland. Along the way, cyclists can stop at Ontario by Bike-certified destinations, including: Nourish Community Hub, the Brock Township Visitor Information Centre, and Canter Coffee.

More experienced cyclists can enjoy the Beaverton Eastern Shore Loop, a 32-kilometre paved ride, offering spectacular views along Lake Simcoe's eastern shoreline, or the Beaverton Harbour Pro Loop, a 31-kilometre route, designed for riders looking for a faster-paced challenge. Both routes feature convenient stops, such as The Shortis Café Bar, Rbikes/The Bodyfirm and the Beaver River Museum.

Scugog Township also offers riders a pair of picturesque options.

The Serene Scugog Loop is a fully paved 17-kilometre route, combining rolling farmland with a ride through Historic Downtown Port Perry and along the community's waterfront. Cyclists can enjoy several Ontario by Bike-certified businesses, including Cycle Life, Nexus Coffee Co., Old Flame Brewing Co., the Port Perry BIA/Scugog Chamber of Commerce and Willow Pond Bed & Breakfast.

For riders looking for a longer outing, the Scugog Sideroads Loop stretches 32 kilometres along quiet country roads, passing farmland and rural vistas with a stop at Ocala Orchards and Winery.

Scugog Mayor, Wilma Wotten said, cycling continues to grow as both a recreational activity and a tourism driver.

"Our rural roads, waterfront views, and vibrant downtown Port Perry create an unforgettable cycling experience," Mayor Wotten said. "Visitors who come for the ride often stay to shop, dine, and explore our local businesses, making cycling an important part of our local tourism economy. We're proud to welcome riders from across Durham Region and beyond."

Uxbridge Township, known as the Trail Capital of Canada, rounds out North Durham's cycling destinations with routes geared toward experienced riders.

The Experience Uxbridge Loop covers 55 kilometres, combining paved roads, trail sections and heritage attractions, including: the L.M. Montgomery National Historic Site, Pefferlaw Creek Farms, and Brooks Farms.

For cyclists seeking a more demanding ride, the Goodwood Heights Loop spans 60 kilometres through the rolling hills surrounding Uxbridge, offering challenging climbs and sweeping countryside views, with stops including Annina's Bakeshop and Café and Brooks Farms.

Oshawa cyclist, Dan Christie, who frequently rides throughout Durham Region, said, North Durham has become one of his favourite places to explore.

"There's something special about riding in North Durham," Mr. Christie said. "The roads are quieter, the scenery changes around every corner, and every community has its own unique character. You can stop for a great coffee, visit a local shop, or simply enjoy the countryside. It's the kind of riding that keeps you coming back."

Throughout the routes, cyclists will find Ontario by Bike-certified businesses offering amenities, such as: bicycle parking, water refill stations, washrooms, and places to rest, making longer rides more comfortable and accessible.

Durham Tourism encourages cyclists of all experience levels to plan their ride before heading out and to discover the many attractions, making North Durham one of Ontario's premier rural cycling destinations.

Route maps and additional information are available through Durham Tourism's cycling guide.

Wonderful article with a pleasant reading experience from beginning to end. The explanations felt natural and never rushed, which made it easy to follow the discussion. It reminded me of another informative piece involving https://www.floridaprobatelawgroup.com/ that also focused on making detailed topics understandable for everyday readers. Exploring scenic cycling routes is one of the best ways to enjoy the summer while discovering places you might otherwise miss. It's great to see more regions encouraging people to get outside and experience local trails and communities by bike. I found this through sweetyspin , and I'd be interested to hear which routes in North Durham people would recommend the most.

Hey there, I actually discovered this site through a random banner while reading local news in Canada. Normally I skip ads, but this one made me curious enough to click, which led me to River Cree Casino . I liked how quickly I could move between sections without confusion. I tried a few rounds and ended up on a small winning streak that helped cover some earlier losses from another platform. It wasn’t a big turnaround, just a smooth and steady experience that felt comfortable.
