Movement for Life

by Lauren Walker

Most of you who read my articles know my attitude about aging. Age does not dictate success; it is your desire to do it, to a great degree, which plays a major role. Health and wellness belongs to all of us and it's never too late to start. Most of my clients are over sixty-five, so I've come to understand, priorities change as you go through life. Wellness is about being able to enjoy the activities you love with the people who matter most.

There's a reason why I say, "Movement is Medicine." Exercise helps people feel better, without all the long term side effects of a pill. It needs to be prescribed properly, in order for you to reap the benefit. If you're struggling with little things, such as getting up or down the stairs or even getting off the toilet, you're not alone! While it may seem little to you or me, being able to manage basic activities in your life is important The only way you'll ever get better at these things is to practice and that's where I come in.

Henry Ford's quote rings in my head as I write this article. "If you think you can or you can't, either way you're right." If you're under the impression you can't do something, you're correct. When you change your attitude and decide, "Yes I can" then you'll feel more inclined to try. It doesn't matter what age you happen to be, you can help yourself this way.

Staying active is imperative to your quality of life, there's just no other way around it. If I've learned anything in my career, it is this, "If you don-t use it, you lose it."
