BROCK: Another round of improvements is taking shape at MacLeod Park, with new basketball and tennis infrastructures, among the latest upgrades, underway at the Cannington recreation hub.

Contractors have installed new basketball posts at the park, nets are expected to be added next spring.

Work has also been progressing on the park’s tennis courts, where new court posts have been installed. The project was expected to be completed by the end of this week.

Once the tennis court work is finished, the nets will be removed for the season, as part of the Township of Brock’s regular seasonal park operations. Municipal parks and seasonal park amenities close annually, on October 1st.

The latest work is part of a broader series of improvements at MacLeod Park and surrounding recreational facilities in Cannington.

Mayor Mike Jubb said, there is plenty happening in the community, as the latest projects build on improvements already completed at the park.

“More MacLeod Park improvements are underway,” explained Mayor Jubb. “This is in addition to the pavilion and playground installations in 2025, as well as the refurbishment of the pedestrian bridge this year.”

The pedestrian bridge provides an important connection through the park, while the pavilion and playground have added new amenities for families and park users.

Mayor Jubb also noted, the Township is also looking ahead to a number of potential additions to the park and surrounding recreational area.

“Council has approved testing for the multi-use sports field and costing for splash pad infrastructure, trails, and new washrooms,” he said.

Those projects remain part of the Township’s ongoing planning and assessment of future recreational improvements.

The improvements also come on the heels of significant work at the nearby Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre arena.

“Lastly, let’s not forget the significant arena renovations and equipment replacements which were just completed two weeks ago,” Mayor Jubb added. “Lots on the go and much more forthcoming!”

Residents using MacLeod Park, are asked for patience and cooperation while the current work is completed. The upgrades are intended to maintain and expand recreational opportunities at the park, while ensuring the facilities remain safe and enjoyable for residents and visitors.

With the annual October 1st closure of municipal parks and seasonal amenities approaching, some of the newest facilities will have to wait until next spring for their first full season of use.
