Monday Morning Singers, the well-known women’s choir, directed by Anne Mizen, based in Uxbridge, draws its singers from many areas around the town, including York Region, Durham County, Brock and East Gwillimbury.
The choir is starting work on the exciting repertoire for a Christmas concert, planned for Friday, December 5th, at 7:30 p.m., in the beautiful St Paul’s Anglican Church, in Uxbridge.
The concert is called “Dancing Day,” the main work in the program. It was written by composer John Rutter, who is famous for writing, so many singable, charming works, for amateur choirs. He celebrated his 80th birthday in September, of this year, and we dedicate this performance as part of his celebration.
This cycle of traditional Christmas Carols was given its first performance in England, on January 26th, 1974, and has been part of the choral repertoire ever since.
The choir will be joined by an instrumental trio of piano, flute and cello.
Our collaborative accompanist, Elaine Brandon will be joined by cellist, Samuel Bisson, flutist, James Warburton and, baritone, Kieran Kane.
John Rutter is published by Oxford University Press, as is our commissioned composer, Sarah Quartel. Sarah wrote the lovely Carol called Long, Long Ago, for the MMSingers, last year.
We have chosen to sing it again, to celebrate the work, published this past summer, by Oxford University Press.
Other carols include a range of music from the 14th century to the present, from Eric Whitacre to local composers, all celebrating the Christmas story.
Come and be part of this special evening of music and song.
