BROCK: Brock Township has a new mayor and there won’t be a by-election after all.

As of 2 p.m., on Friday, July 25th, the nomination period for the upcoming mayoral by-election officially closed, with only one candidate filing: current Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor Michael Jubb.

With no opposing candidates, Councillor Jubb has been acclaimed as Mayor and is now considered Mayor Elect. His formal oath of office was administered in the Clerk’s office, on Monday, July 28th.

“I am beyond ecstatic!” Mayor Jubb said in a statement, following the announcement. “We have avoided a costly and time-consuming by-election, and now it is time to get back to business! I am extremely proud to be your next Mayor of the Township of Brock. I would like to thank everybody, from the bottom of my heart, for the opportunity to serve the great people in our municipality.”

Mayor Jubb steps into the role following the resignation of former Mayor Walter Schummer, who stepped down in late May.

In the coming weeks, Township staff will bring forward a report to Council, outlining next steps for filling the now-vacant Regional Councillor position.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Council and staff to keep moving Brock forward,” Mayor Michael Jubb added.

Mayor Jubb’s swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday, before the regularly scheduled council meeting. A formal public acknowledgement of his new role is expected at the next regular Council meeting.
