The Port Perry Lumberjacks' six-game winning streak was halted this weekend, but they still came out of the weekend with a split.
On Saturday, October 19th, the Lumberjacks visited Little Britain for a match-up against the Merchants.
Five minutes into the first period, Zak Krolicki put the puck in the net, giving the Lumberjacks the first lead of the game. Then, over 11 and a half minutes in, Andrew Naccarato-Soule scored, extending the lead to 2-0.
Over two minutes into the second period, Cameron Marshall made it a 3-0 game with a goal. Less than three minutes later, Braedyn Vannetten scored. The game was 4-0 for the Lumberjacks after 40 minutes of play.
The Merchants would be the only team to score in the third period, but the Lumberjacks held on to win the game 4-1.
The Lumberjacks would then head home to Scugog Arena on Sunday, October 20th, for a match-up against the first-place Clarington Eagles.
The game started with anticipation as each player skated onto the ice through fog from a machine, and the ice was lit with strobe lights.
While the first half of the first period was like a methodical chess match, scoreless and each team feeling each other out, the Eagles would be the only team to score in the game. Clarington would strike twice in the latter half of the first period and then score two goals in each of the next two periods. They defeated the Lumberjacks 6-0.
