Lumberjacks defeat Bruins in their first game of 2024

The Port Perry Lumberjacks won the latest edition of the ‘Battle of North Durham’ over the weekend.

The Lumberjacks hosted the Bruins at Scugog Arena on Sunday, January 7th.

Both teams had power play opportunities in the first period, however neither were able to capitalize on those. With four and a half minutes remaining in the period, Liam Goreski put a puck past the Bruins’ goaltender’s blocker to make it a 1-0 game.

Over five minutes into the second period, the Lumberjacks extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Kyle Bailey.

Just 71 seconds into the third period, Mark Stoop scored, giving the Lumberjacks a 3-0 lead. But, three minutes later, the Bruins scored, cutting the lead to 3-1. Uxbridge had a power play goal late in the period, but the Lumberjacks held on to win the game 3-2.

- The Lumberjacks will head to Georgina on Friday, January 12th to face the Ice. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m.

- The Lumberjacks next home game at Scugog Arena is on Sunday, January 14th against the Lakefield Chiefs. That game will begin at 2:25 p.m.
