NORTH DURHAM: Longtime Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) trustee Kathy LeFort has resigned from the position. Ms. LeFort has served as the board’s representative for Uxbridge, Scugog and Brock Townships. Her resignation was announced at a special board meeting on Monday, August 17th. “Since assuming the role of Trustee over 30 years ago, Kathleen held the positions of Chair and Vice-Chair, along with strong representation on numerous committees,” read a DCDSB press release. Ms. LeFort recently provided The Standard an emailed statement about her resignation. “It was with regret that I had to step down. It truly was a privilege to speak on behalf of our northern community. I truly am blessed to have had that opportunity. I moved out of Durham, so I no longer qualify to sit,” she wrote. DCDSB Chair, and Ajax trustee, Janice Oldman spoke fondly of her time working with Ms. LeFort. “I have been blessed to serve the DCDSB community with Kathleen over the years. She has admirably advocated for Catholic education, working diligently and with the highest integrity in understanding and addressing the needs of our students, families and communities with profound impact and contribution,” she said, in a press release. Director of Education Tracy Barill also provided a statement. “Her experience, knowledge and thoughtful questions made a tremendous impact for our system in guiding decisions that were made with the best interest of student well-being and achievement in mind. We are grateful for her service and wish her health, happiness and God’s blessings in this next chapter of her life.” The DCDSB is expected to fill the now vacant Scugog, Uxbridge, Brock trustee position through appointment.
