On Wednesday, March 6th the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal was presented to Rick and Deb DeJong at the home of Magil and Joyce Darnley (Nominators).
The King Charles III Coronation Medal is awarded to individuals, in this case a couple, who have made significant contributions to their community and country and have made significant contributions to programs which have brought benefit to others.
During the presentation by MP Jamie Schmale, some of the entities were detailed which have benefited from the superior leadership and dedication exemplified selflessly by Deb and Rick over many years.
They include: Sunderland Lions Community Youth Theatre, Sunderland Lions Music Festival, Pinedale and MacNeil Cemetery Boards, professional careers as educators, Beaverton Town Hall Players, Scugog Choral Society, Wick Presbyterian Church, Choirs at Sunderland Maple Syrup Festival and Fall Fair, Durham Days, Fundraising Events for the Cancer Society and Palliative Care Port Perry and Solo bike ride across Canada.
Several family members and friends were present to witness this auspicious occasion and to congratulate Rick and Deb on receiving this wonderful award. They were gracious in their acceptance and were quick to acknowledge all of the team players who had participated in their various endeavours. It must be noted it was because of the initiative and special skills of Rick and Deb that many of these programs have flourished, bringing joy and benefit to so many, particularly to our youth.
