Letter to the editor: One year, one million, a proud milestone

Since our launch in November 2019, Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes has made a significant impact in the local community. More than 535 donors contributed over $785,000 to eleven established funds, aimed to support community need, community projects and self-directed charitable purposes. With the establishment of the Bobcaygeon & Area COVID-19 Relief Fund, the overwhelming response from the community validates our view that people deeply care and want to contribute. They want their community to be safe, healthy and thriving.

The Foundation granted $194,000 to 17 charities through Emergency Community Support Program sponsored by the Federal Government and the Community Foundations of Canada and has now launched the Agri-Innovation Loan Program, aimed to award $250,000 to local farmers and agricultural initiatives.

The Foundation recognizes the invaluable drive and determination by founding President, Mike Perry, Lead – Laws & Constitution at Métis Nation of Ontario and recently retired Board Directors, Marlene Morrison Nicholls, President, Stewart Morrison Insurance Brokers Ltd. and James Fagan, Associate Consultant, IG Wealth. Their initial vision and commitment have laid the exceptional groundwork for a thriving Community Foundation, here for all communities in Kawartha Lakes.
