KAWARTHA LAKES: The City of Kawartha Lakes will be marking International Women’s Day in March.

“As we prepare to celebrate on March 8th, 2024, we honour the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women,” Mayor Doug Elmslie said, at a meeting on Tuesday, February 20th.

This year, the theme for International Women’s Day is “Inspiring Inclusion.”

“We all play a part in this commitment to inclusion. When women aren’t present, we must ask why not. When women are discriminated against, we must call out poor practice. When the treatment of women is not equitable, we must advocate for change,” Mayor Elmslie stated.

Mayor Elmslie encourages residents to “stay tuned to [the city’s] municipal bulletins over the coming weeks to find how you can participate in International Women’s Day 2024.”

The International Women’s Day website explains the day as “a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women,” and one which “marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.”
