KAWARTHA LAKES: City of Kawartha Lakes Mayor, Doug Elmslie stressed the importance of kindness in a holiday message to residents.

His message was shared during the City’s last council meeting of the year on Tuesday, December 12th.

“During the Christmas season, give generously if you can, but also give of your time. If you have a neighbour or somebody you know [who is] living alone, check in on them once in a while. Make sure they are doing okay. Take five or ten minutes to have a conversation with them. Let’s be kind during this time,” Mayor Elmslie said.

The Mayor then spoke about why it is important to be kind to others.

“Yes, it’s good to give, but giving of ourselves and being kind and being thoughtful to others, I think, is probably a bigger gift than giving a toy to a child. But, those are important too, and let’s make sure every child has something to open on Christmas morning,” he said. “To all the citizens of Kawartha Lakes, to council and their families, to our staff and their families, [we wish you] the Merriest of Christmases, [and] the safest. Be well, be happy and let’s go to a prosperous new year.”
