KAWARTHA LAKES: The City of Kawartha Lakes marked February as Black History Month at their recent meeting on Tuesday, January 30th.

The proclamation was made by Mayor Doug Elmslie during the announcements portion of the meeting.

“Kawartha Lakes joins communities across Canada in celebrating the heritage of Black Canadians who have shaped our country,” Mayor Elmslie said.

He also explained how people can get involved in recognizing this awareness month.

“Please take a moment to check out the Kawartha Lakes Public Library recommended books to celebrate Black History Month.”

He noted this past weekend there was an event in Coboconk put on by the Kawartha Land Trust where people could “learn more about Black excellence in Conservation.”
