KAWARTHA LAKES: Entrepreneurs, across the community, are being encouraged to take the next step to grow their businesses. Applications open for the Spring 2026 cohort, of the Starter Company PLUS program, in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

The program, offered through the municipality, in partnership with the Province of Ontario, is designed to support small business owners who are looking to launch, expand, or strengthen their operations.

Applications officially opened on March 2nd, with the intake period running until April 2nd. The spring program will provide participants with training, mentorship and the opportunity to access a grant of up to $5,000, to help support their business goals.

The initiative is open to a wide range of entrepreneurs, incorporating: artists, ready to sell their work; service providers, building their client base; skilled tradespeople, starting their own business; retailers, launching storefront or online shops; repair specialists, and anyone with a strong business idea and the motivation to bring it to life.

Participants accepted into the program will take part in expert-led business training workshops and receive one-on-one mentorship from experienced business advisors. The program also helps entrepreneurs develop detailed business and financial plans while connecting them with local resources and professional networks.

“This program is about giving entrepreneurs the tools, guidance and confidence they need to succeed,” said Sandy Greenberg, Economic Development Officer of Small Business Programs for the City of Kawartha Lakes. “Our program participants are always full of incredible energy and fresh ideas, and we love helping local entrepreneurs turn their skills and passions into thriving businesses.”

Ms. Greenberg said, the spring intake is a great opportunity for people who are ready to move forward with their business ideas.

“Spring represents fresh starts and forward momentum,” she said. “Starter Company PLUS is for entrepreneurs who are ready to invest in their ideas and take meaningful steps toward success.”

The program is intended, not only to provide business training, but also, to build a supportive community of entrepreneurs who can learn from each other while developing their businesses.

City staff noted, spaces in the program are limited and demand is typically high.

The Spring 2026 Starter Company PLUS program will begin later this spring. Those interested in applying are encouraged to submit their applications before the April 2nd deadline.

More information about the program and the application process is available through the Starter Company PLUS page, online, or by contacting Ms. Greenberg through the City of Kawartha Lakes Economic Development office.
