Kawartha Lakes health unit announces sites for vaccine clinics

KAWARTHA LAKES: The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR) has announced the locations for the return of their COVID-19 mass immunization clinics.

On Wednesday, November 3rd, the health unit put out a press release, stating clinics will be at the Fenelon Falls Community Centre, Lindsay Exhibition lands, Minden Community Centre, Cobourg Community Centre, and Keeler Centre Colborne.

The reopening of these clinics is due to the province’s recent announcement, expanding eligibility for third doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

“We know that is going to mean a much higher number of people potentially asking for third doses of vaccine across HKPR,” local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Natalie Bocking told reporters during a virtual press conference, on Wednesday, November 3rd.

Dr. Bocking explained how these clinics would operate. “These immunization clinics will be offered on different days during the week, and then on weekends. We will have some clinics also at some area high schools. [These clinics] are certainly open to students, staff and the general public.”

However, due to their size, the clinics will be limited in the number of people they can see on a given day.

“We don’t have access to the same sites we did originally in the campaign. A lot of those much larger venues are being used for other things, such as hockey or curling,” Dr. Bocking explained. “The sites we currently have won’t be able to fit a high number of people, the same way some of our initial sites did.”
