KAWARTHA LAKES: The City of Kawartha Lakes council has come up with new names for two former sections of Highway 7.
Earlier this year, the City decided to rename a portion of Highway 7, north of Meadowview Road, to McCumber Court. A portion of Highway 7, south of Meadowview Road, was also renamed to Switzer Place. However, the decision was reconsidered by council in late October, after a deputation from Jeffrey Armitage asking for residents to be given a voice on the street renaming process.
At a meeting on Tuesday, November 17th, councillors voted to approve a motion, made by Ward 8 Councillor Tracy Richardson, to rename the section north of Meadowview Road to Fallaise Court, and the section south of Meadowview Road to Cityview Heights.
Local area residents were able to provide their input on a short list of proposed names. Councillor Richardson explained why she chose the two new street names.
“The names were polled, and those were the two final [names] with the highest results,” she said. But the councillor also acknowledged these decisions will “probably not” make everyone happy.
