Join the Student Summer Job Fair in January

COURTNEY McCLURE The Standard

SCUGOG: In January, the Township of Scugog is hosting a summer student job fair. The job fair will be held at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre. Doors open at 3 p.m. and will remain open until 5 p.m.

“The Township of Scugog is happy to support local students, helping them gain experience and build the confidence and skills necessary to succeed,” said manager of human resources at the Township of Scugog, Robyn Huloswki. “Local students have an opportunity to work where they live and to have a positive impact on their community.

There will be a variety of summer job opportunities within the Township of Scugog, open for high school and post-secondary students.

“Having a summer job lined up, early, gives students peace of mind,” said R. Hulowski.

Potential job opportunities include: IT help desk technician, camp counsellor, public works student and more. Some positions are more competitive than others.

For example, post-secondary students prefer working in their field of study over the summer, so they can improve their resume and gain hands on experience.

The student summer job fair allows students to meet potential employers in-person and make a good impression, rather than waiting for a call back.

The student job fair is held during the “holiday break,” so

students have the opportunity to attend. Attendees are able to apply for positions while at the fair and they can meet with many associates from the township departments. On-the-spot interviews are also a possibility.

“Successful students” may receive their job offer a few weeks after their “on-the-spot” interview.

The summer job fair is usually an annual event within Scugog. However, it was paused for the COVID-19 pandemic. The fair returned in 2022.
