Join Canada’s Birthday Celebration in Uxbridge

COURTNEY McCLURE The Standard

UXBRIDGE: The Uxbridge 2023 Canada Day celebrations will be hosted in Elgin Park.

The Uxbridge Canada Day committee chair, Robin Coombs usual opening ceremony speech always included, “You could be anywhere but you chose to be here in Uxbridge on Canada Day.” He believes this quote still speaks to the people of Uxbridge and the surrounding communities during Canada Day.

This year’s celebration will be a scaled-down Canada Day celebration. For example, there will not be a petting zoo. However, the committee has prepared kids crafts, and other family entertainment for attendees to enjoy, such as multiple food vendors and fireworks starting at dusk.

“We always have spectacular fireworks,” said Colleen Baskin, the communications officer for the Township of Uxbridge.

The new playground in Elgin Park will also be open before festivities begin, so Ms. Baskin expects many children will enjoy the new equipment.

The gates to the park will be opening at 6 p.m., with free admission.

Vehicles are asked to enter the park through the Elgin Park Drive gate. No parking will be permitted near or around the bandshell at the main street entrance. This is to ensure the safety of all people attending.

If you’re interested in volunteering to help out with this year’s Canada Day celebration, you can go to Elgin Park and visit the Event Office. You can find it in the grey block building, which is adjacent to the Lions Food Booth. There will be volunteer sign-up sheets available there. Or you can contact Mr. Robin Coombs at rsdcoombs@gmail.com.
