International Equestrian Event coming to the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds

KAWARTHA LAKES: Riders from the USA, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa as well as potentially from Pakistan, and Burkina Faso will gather at the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds, to compete in the International Mounted Games Association’s Nations Team Championship, in 2022. Mounted Games is an equestrian sport, where riders compete in relay races on ponies up to 15 hands tall, demonstrating athletic ability, excellent riding skills, determination, perseverance, and a competitive spirit. Mounted Games were originally created by Prince Philip as a competition for children unable to afford expensive, well-bred ponies. In 1957, the first Mounted Games Championship, for the Prince Philip Cup, was held at the Horse of the Year Show in London, England. Today, riders in 24 countries across the globe participate in Mounted Games. “This is the first time Equine Mounted Games Canada (EMGC) will be hosting an International Mounted Games Association event,” noted Michelle Cruikshanks, President, EMGC, “and we’re excited to be working with the Lindsay Agricultural Society at the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds. We looked at many facilities in Southern Ontario but the LEX Grounds stood out for their combination of facilities, accommodations, and willingness to work with us.” “We’re thrilled to be able to host an international competition at the LEX Grounds, and bring visitors from across the world to the Kawarthas,” stated Harry Stoddart, Lindsay Agricultural Society General Manager. “We’ve hosted numerous provincial and national level livestock shows but this is our first international event. It speaks to the calibre of facilities we have, not just at the LEX Grounds but in Lindsay.”

About the Lindsay Agricultural Society The Lindsay Agricultural Society (LAS) is a federally registered charity, governed by a volunteer board of directors. The LAS was established to improve agricultural knowledge within the community and create opportunities for dialogue between the agricultural community and the residents of the Kawartha Lakes. Attendance averages over 45,000 visitors, and the 2020 edition will run from September 23rd to 27th. The LEX Grounds, located at the south end of Angeline St., are owned by the Lindsay Agricultural Society. The LEX Grounds host over 40 events each year, in addition to the Lindsay Exhibition, drawing over 100,000 visitors annually.

About Equine Mounted Games Canada Equine Mounted Games Canada Inc. (EMGC) is a not-for-profit organization that formed in 2013, with the goals of developing and promoting the equine sport in Canada. It is achieving these goals as the organization continues to grow with members across Canada; and Mounted Games, as a sport, has become a more recognized discipline in Canadian equine circles. EMGC is recognized by the International Mounted Games Association (IMGA) as the official body representing Canadian mounted games. This IMGA membership entitles our riders to many opportunities, including the development of skills with world renowned riders, and the ability to compete abroad.
