UXBRIDGE: The 18th annual Huck Finn Youth Fishing Day, scheduled for April 25th, has been cancelled, by organizer Pat Higgins. “I encourage you all to stay safe and be positive,” Mr. Higgins wrote to participants in a notice about the cancellation. According to Mr. Higgins, he made the difficult decision on March 31st and posted it on the Township of Uxbridge’s website. He stated they will set aside donations and prizes for next year’s event. The event, held in Elgin Park, starts off with a parade through the downtown streets in Uxbridge, but not this year. Kids dressed up in costumes inspired by the characters from the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, written by Mark Twain. Volunteers stock the pond about a week ahead of the event with fish. The kids then compete for various prizes, such as the longest fish. Huck Finn Day is a great way to celebrate the beginning of spring and will be missed this year.
